Conflict
The main conflict in Fences is actually not about Troy's affair with Alberta, it is rather about how Cory struggles to have a relationship with Troy due to Troy's resistance to allow Cory to make a career out of football. It is a battle between two separate generations with totally different experiences. August Wilson uses this conflict to foretell the ways in which life will be and is continuing to become different for later generations. Wilson shows the rebellious nature of youths when Cory says, "You crazy....You just a crazy old man" (2.4.87).
